The lyrics of Aguilera's song meets the double standard that today's group of girls is faced with. Pop culture often promotes sex but still expects young women to act differently than their male peers, but Aguilera talks about the other side of the issue. Christina sings out in her chorus to all the girls and women listening, "If you look back in history, it's a typical double standard of society, the guy gets all the glory the more he can score, while the girl can do the same yet you call her a whore." While our nation has grown greatly in the topic of equality between men and women, most times, sex is not a topic that has changed. The Kaiser Family Foundation and Seventeen Magazine conducted a survey looking at the insight of male and female roles among teens. Of 512 teens ages 15 to 17 surveyed, more than a third believe there is a double standard for boys and girls. Teens are interpreting and dealing with a lot mixed messages about sex. They see differences in sexual attitudes, opportunity and rules between genders. According to the survey, 9 in 10 teens said it is good for a girl to be a virgin (Kristi Cherry).
