The phrase " Dignity of Man" to me means a symbol of achievement, struggle, hard work, growth, advancement, and the possibility of change. I believe that man should have a spiritual base in order to make him complete. I agree with Mirandolov, in believing that all men must be familiar with the god above him and become lord to everything beneath him. The art figure I choose to relate to my definition of the " Dignity of Man" is an untitled porcelain piece.
The statue appears to be of a man and a little boy, but it could represent any gender. What makes this piece so unique to me is that the figures reflect no physical perfections or imperfections. This stood out to me by whom the statue is not limited to race, ethnicity, culture, religion, social status, political influence, and intelligence level. It is just a representation of humanity. The arms and base of the two figures connect the statue. What makes this unique is that its not joined by the hands or the toes. The actual arms are joined as if it is one; there is no defined beginning of the tall figures arm or ending to the short figures arm. The same applies to the feet. The tall figure appears to be crouched down in a position that I thought it might be teaching the smaller figure something or a reflection of some gesture of communication or affection. The base of the taller figure is slightly leaned back as if the base of the taller figure was more dominant. The head of the taller figure appears forward yet upright, similar to one speaking to a small child. The small figure body appears to be leaning forward like it was about to fall before the tall figure caught it, or the small figure relied on the tall figure for support. The head of the small figure tends to lean backward like it was a representation of a child listening to an adult. .
One of my first impressions of the statue was that it would not be possible for small figure to stand if not for the tall figure.
