Medea on Trial

On trial for murder today is the sorceress Medea for the death of her two children, King Creon, and his daughter Cruesa. Today the truth will be obtained and a verdict announced by me, Judge James T. Garzillo. I will serve this court to the best of my ability based upon facts and truths. Medea will have a chance to either prove her innocence or guiltiness. There is much to be considered in this case for it determines the life of this woman. For if this woman is guilty of murder than she shall spend the rest of eternity in prison or shall be effected by the sergeants of law. Deciding an outcome for this trial won't be easy for there are many key factors that play a role in the decision making. Like was the murder premeditated? Did she really love her children? Should Medea face the death penalty if she is convicted? We shall pay much attention to key facts as well. Like theif her husband may have tormented her to the point to kill. Although Medea loved her husband Jason and her kids, the actions Medea took were not that of what a civilized good-natured person would. .
The overall facts that I have obtained from Medea's defense attorney can be summarized all too well. Medea stated that her reason for the deaths were out of her dire love for Jason. She says, "You know that my lord Jason has left me and made a second marriage with the bright-haired child of wealth and power."(Euripides 121) She explained to the council that she didn't want to hurt Jason or the kids, but she felt the only way Jason would give her the time of day was to hit him where it hurts. She said she regrets doing it but, it was the only thing she could do. For her love for Jason was unremitting and there was nothing that will ever change this. I asked Medea, "Then why the reason to kill King Creon and his beautiful daughter Cruesa?" Her response was that she felt that Jason was hers before Cruesa, and she wanted to get rid of anything that would take Jason away from her.
