Brebeuf

            Daily attendance by students at Brebeuf is becoming a bigger problem. Every year, attendance tends to become poorer and poorer as the school tries to improve it. Lateness is the main problem with many people coming to school late in the morning. The school tries to improve daily attendance and lateness of students by warning them and then threatening them of suspension. These threats don't seem to work as some students still skip, come late and miss so much school. Something has to be done about the attendance in the school even with the system the school has. They need to take action instead of just threatening because nothing anything happening. .
             The current attendance system is reasonable. Having a hit list of people absent from any periods the day before and for the school calling and informing the parents of the absent is a good system that the school has. What happens when the school makes a mistake and calls the students parents and then the student gets in trouble for skipping when he didn't? This mistake happens very often. Or when the student comes to school the next day and is on the hit list for not skipping and has to waste his time going down to the office for an admit slip? The attendance office should be more aware of these situations and try to fix them and not make them happen. It can look bad on a student's part to his teacher or his parents because of this mistake. Those who do skip class should get penalized after one or two skips.
             Other than skipping, lateness has been another big factor over the years. About 4 years ago, the attendance system required you to sign in by yourself or ask the attendance lady for a late slip, which was written. That system failed to work because not only were people coming late all the time, they were skipping and it was much easier back then. Now the system allows you 10 late slips but after 5 a letter gets sent home that once the student reaches 10, he's suspended.
