"In 1880's Chinese shrimp camps near San Francisco and in Louisiana were supplying not only the local markets, but also shipping a million pounds of dried shrimp to Asia." Early Chinese American communities were overwhelming male. In 1890's, there were 27 men to 1 woman. Most Chinese men came along to America and left their wives in China. Many Chinese Bachelors grew in towns and cities into Chinatown with stores, herb shops, restaurant, newspaper's business, temple and theatres. Some of Chinese Bachelors made ""The Golden Hill's News" in 1854, San Francisco's Golden Hill's News became the first Chinese language newspaper published in America.
