The number two and number three teams in the country played for the championship in the Sugar Bowl and USC was snubbed, so to say, and they played in the Rose Bowl against the number four team in the country, the University of Michigan (Carroll Not Complaining about BCS Ranking, net). USC ended up beating Michigan easily in that game. Since USC won that game and ended up number one in the poll they had to share the national championship with Louisiana State University even though LSU won the B.C.S. championship game against Oklahoma University (Carroll Not Complaining about BCS Ranking, net). So as it probably appears the B.C.S. ranking is a pretty complicated process, and that is why most people believe that another ranking system should be considered.
Most of the people that are unhappy with the B.C.S ranking system are upset because the fact that the ranking is actually done by people. Some believe that the ranking in college football should be done by some special computer ranking system (Congressional Tongue-lashing, net). It is also thought that the ranking system should be changed more than just having it done by computers, many people believe that margin of victory should be a factor in the new ranking system to make the voting for the top twenty five teams more efficient (BCS Better off Without Another Face-Lift, net). They also believe that the rankings should be open for any college in the nation regardless if they were in the B.C.S. conferences or not because that is not really fair to those schools now even if they are a really good team and they go undefeated they still would more than likely not get a spot in the B.C.S. title game, even though they clearly are a better team than the teams in the championship game. Like in 1998, Tulane University went undefeated the entire season but since they were not in a B.C.S. school they were not allowed to play in the Championship Game (Congressional Tongue-lashing, net).
