At this moment, the word transformation invites a very positive notion of the growing progressive social movement in this country, the transformation of our national consciousness. We've seen the build up to this in the past civil rights movements of the post-World War II era. With the help of visionaries like Martin Luther King, John Lennon, and Mahatma Gandhi, just to name a few, a large segment of the American population was empowered to question the grim realities of the world around them, to ask "Can we not do better than this?".
This evolutionary leap towards a holistic view of the world, towards an understanding of the interdependence of all life on this planet, continues today. In the aftermath of 9/11, a large number of Americans cried out "Our cries of grief are not cries for revenge." This plea for peace culminated in the world-wide protests against our country's war for Empire on Iraq. Never before have the words "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" rung truer and with such broad acceptance and understanding. The movement towards a reclamation of our popular sovereignty is on the brink of success, only lacking in one important aspect.
Every large-scale social transformation requires a leader, someone to help steer the large number of diverse ideologies towards their shared aspirations. Those opposed to such a transformation understand this and have attempted to derail the movement by offering up wolves in sheep's clothing with catchphrases such as "I"m a uniter, not a divider." Luckily for We the People, a true leader has emerged, poised to take this country and this world in a completely different direction. This leader is Dennis Kucinich, Democratic Presidential candidate, and he is tirelessly working to pick up where Martin Luther King left off, only this time with the full power of the US Presidency.
I know politicians do not always make the best leaders for a true cultural transformation, as hardly do they stick to campaign promises, often giving in to corruption and greed.
