Kyoto Protocol

Many people have been mislead by the information they have viewed or read because of such a controlled and biased media, the government has however pushed through and succeeded in a very important global treaty that will harbour many benefits and rewards to both Canada and the world. .
             .
Provincial Governments across Canada have expressed their concern for the economic burden that could result from the accord. (1) Alberta, rich in oil and industrial polluting industries, spoke loud in their concern for uncompetitive prices due to extra environmental preservation costs. Conflictingly however it is the prairie farmers who are expected to continue to suffer incomparably from global warming for years to follow, as their crop yields continue to dwindle due to the droughts. This commonly should push them towards taking a strong stand in favor of the implementation in order to sustain and ensure healthy farming for generations to come. (2) However, the Albertan Provincial Government's case against ratification was distorted when they announced last month that Alberta will spend 342 million in new funding this year alone to aid their drought stricken farmers. Such a situation conflicts their intention on whether or not to support the Kyoto Accord. In a response to Kyoto and in their efforts to minimize what they believed would be an economic burden, Alberta developed a solution that signified a Made in Canada Approach. It symbolized a slower more clear-cut Canadian stand, that looked to change and progress environmental preservation while being more lenient and economically sensitive to individual provinces needs. However, it was missing many crucial elements, ones that the Kyoto Accord encompasses. A Kyoto approach holds a key element in its success, and that is its accountability to the global community. An accountability that requires us to comply with and meet deadlines, a constant pressure from other global members.
