How does Charlotte Bronte portray School and Childhood .
Schooling and childhood play a very important role in the first part of the book. The experiences and feelings of Bronte's heroin, Jane, are the tools that Bronte uses to describe surroundings and happenings of the time. However, there are many things that we must consider in order to prove that what Bronte has written is totally accurate. For example, we only see Jane's point of view. Also the norms and values of the time period play an important part. Bronte also uses different writing tools to describe things to the reader.

To start with, the story is told through Jane's eyes only; and being the negative thinking character that she is, things tend to be seen as less desirable and attractive than they really are. When it comes to describing Jane's torment, the language used by Bronte is at it's most powerful. Jane's descriptions of what is going on in her own mind are very striking and we feel closer to Jane because we see events from her point of view. Her feelings, especially her conscience' and her passion', are often given their own voice, and seem to fight over her right to decide her own actions. This style helps the reader to understand what Jane is going through, and to understand why she acts in the way she does. Using a character's feelings is an effective way of describing situations and Bronte does this very well. However using Jane's thoughts may lead us away from what life was really like in that period.
