Buckminister Fuller

On the verge of suicide, it suddenly struck him that his life belonged, not to himself, but to the universe. He then chose to go forth on what he called "an experiment to discover what the little, penniless, unknown individual might be able to do effectively on behalf of all humanity." Over the next fifty-four years, he proved, time and again, that his most controversial ideas were practical and workable.(1).
And so from then on it was. He moved from his home, left his wife and other child to live with relatives for six months. For six months he built a model of a house that was portable and less expensive then others. It was round. He wanted to revolutionize housing because he thought that it was the one thing that had not been touched since the early eighteen hundreds. After this six month period he showed it to the architectural league. Bucky, as he was often called, priced this house at five thousand dollars which was a lot for a house at this time and it was thought that no one would buy it. He then became bankrupt again. .
After this he decided to make a car. A dymaxion car, a car with three wheels that would fit up to eleven people in it. Bucky hated things that were not needed. He believed that a fourth wheel was not necessary, for it stopped, accelerated, went faster and turned faster then any other car on the market at the time. He received wide recognition for this car and was in fact banned from riding it in the city because there were sometimes up to five hours of traffic jams due to people stopping to look at it and question him about it. With this car he received more speeding tickets then any other person in the world. He went up to hundred and ten miles an hour, which was unheard of in those days. Then something tragic happened. He was, of course, supposed to show investors this car so he could put it out on the market. But when the investors were in the car it crashed, rolled over killing one and injuring two.
