Shakespearean Sonnets

To me Shakespearean sonnets are not the most interesting of all things probably because I can not understand or relate to them. But they still sometimes are fun to read because they are very descriptive and detailed, and they tell interesting stories. On a personal level these sonnets are touching because they are so passionate and describe an emotion so well, that it truly is stimulating to read only if you understand the content. I chose three sonnets that I felt were more interesting than other and that I could relate to them on a higher scale. .
The first sonnet that I chose was Sonnet number 130. It is one of the most intriguing to examine. In Sonnet 130, the speaker describes the woman that he loves in extremely unflattering terms but claims that he truly loves her, which lends credibility to his claim because even though he does not find her attractive, he still declares his love for her. As he is talking about her it seem almost as though it is out of pity for this dreadful looking woman. However, in the last two lines of the poem, which are indented for the purpose of standing out, recognizing the change in attitude, and showing the point of the poem, the speaker proclaims that his love is as said in lines 13 and 14 of "Sonnet 130" -as rare/As any she belied with false compare". This means that even with all the faults, he still loves her. .
The next sonnet I chose was sonnet number 3. I really liked this sonnet because it talked about how a person needs a child to continue your life after you are dead. A child is more than just a person, but it is a part of you, and a remembrance of your "golden time" after your life has passed. As said in line11 of "Sonnet 3" "So thou through windows of thine age shall see", which illustrates the point of tribute and honor of your life before demise. I enjoyed how Shakespeare intended this sonnet to demonstrate how having a child is obligatory.
