The Pains of High School

Violence in high schools around the United States is an ongoing problem that has become increasingly harder to stop. Many teenagers have to deal with the everyday problems of being ridiculed and teased while trying to receive an education. Violence takes place in public, private, and charter high schools. To help put a stop to violence, it is necessary to understand the three forms of violence sexual, physical, and emotional. Sexual violence happens when a person is forced to give sexual favors, raped, or threatened because of their sexual nature. Physical violence includes hitting, kicking, spitting, choking, pushing, or using weapons to hurt another student. Emotional is classified as name calling, sarcastic remarks or put downs towards other students. .
Sexual harassment occurs when unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. When sexual violence occurs it is an extremely serious matter because of the scarring it can do on child's mind. Sexual advances are forced upon the students that feel they can't protect themselves or may not realize they are being abused. Even adults, such as teachers and administration will take advantage of their students when they believe they have more power over students. Often these students are in fear if they do not participate in these acts. Students decide not to tell another respected person of authority because of embarrassment, fear of getting worse grades, or fear from being a social outcast. .
Physical violence includes hitting, kicking, spitting, choking, pushing, or using weapons to hurt another person. This type of violence occurs most among students themselves. The students who commit these acts of violence do so for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are feeling left out or feeling different from others. Also there are students who could be abused by parents when at home.
