Industry and Immigration

The United States has a racial diversity unheard of in all other countries throughout the world. Most of these immigrants that shaped America came between 1865 and 1920. The European industry became unattractive to unskilled workers, so they all thought to go to the center for migration and labor. .
"But in America the people, one may almost say, have dropped from the sky. They are in the land, but not yet an integral part of it. The population product is artificial and exotic. It is as yet unrelated to its physical environment." .
Immigrants came for many reasons, but the Industrial Revolution caused America to look very attractive to people down on their luck. "Immigration has been largely the response to an active demand for labor in America." In Europe many people, faced with poverty and unable to find work, decided to come over here. The industry had many open jobs and they, although paying very little, became readily available. Factories had horrible working conditions, but that didn't seem to stop anyone from getting a job in those places. "America offers her, not a sympathy of mere sentiment and feeling, but that substantial sympathy which her condition requires." Almost all jobs wanted unskilled laborers, which mean many foreigners could easily get work. .
"Society firmly needs to keep poor people laboring. This is for two reasons: first, someone is needed to perform low-paying, unpleasant tasks; furthermore, there are so many working poor people that the authorities deem it impossible to assist all of them. Therefore, everyone who can work, must." .
By 1945, the United States had become the smokestack of the world, making 85% of good worldwide in America. The factories needed the foreigners to push the revolution; the natives didn't want to leave their nice house and farm to go work for next to nothing. "The rapid growth of manufacturing interests has resulted in a demand for thousands of workmen in mill and factory, which the native population has not been able to meet.
