XFL case study

The strengths that can be identified are the cost advantages of the low salaries of the players and the favorable access to distribution networks through its television contracts with NBC, TNN, and UPN. The main weakness that can be identified is the weak brand name. Although, the WWFE has strong brand equity in wrestling, it has the opportunity to hurt the XFL because the WWF events are staged and many consumers might fear that the football games can be staged as well. In addition, because of the low salaries and many other competitive football leagues, there is a very limited talent pool to be chosen from putting the competitiveness of the XFL in jeopardy. The many opportunities that are present include an unfulfilled customer need because of this new exciting type of football and the modifications of the rules providing an increased interest in the league. These new rules are designed to make the game more extreme and authentic therefore making the game more innovative. It is an attempt to create the most fun and fan football game, as none of the rules are actually created, rather they are borrowed from other leagues and assembled to create this new style of football. One of the main threats that can arise is that these new changes will not intertwine well with the tastes of the American public, and there will be a negative backlash towards the league. .
In extending our SWOT analysis, we will next take a look at the resource based view of the league. The XFL's tangible resources look strong. It has a large cash account with two large and very financially stable corporations backing it in the WWFE and NBC. In addition, there is a considerable amount of support from perspective advertisers, and commercial ads were sold quickly. The leagues ability to raise equity or borrow capital appears to be strong. Next, the physical properties also appear to be strong, with teams in eight different locations with large stadium capacities and excellent training facilities.
