Our Ever Disappearing Lands

Theodore Roosevelt said "To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase it's usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very property which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed" (Nature Node). .
After reading these words from Roosevelt, which overflow with truth, one cant help but feel compelled to take a stand and save our lands, including our waterways, for our future generations but nevertheless don't act upon this feeling. We continue to rape our rain forests of their very life, we buy huge sport utility vehicles that pollute our air like the factories of the industrial revolution, and at the same time endlessly pollute our lakes, rivers, and oceans. And for what reason you ask? Well it's very simple, for nothing more then our own greed. Instead of turning the wonders of nature into national parks, or even much less just preserving their beauty for years to come, we destroy them to build homes and businesses. It's sad indeed, but the problem will not fix itself, we as the keepers of our environment need to improve the environment and leave it better off than how we found it. In order to achieve this goal of taking steps towards preservation I propose three very simple solutions that can drastically alter the direction that our environment is headed in. .
These solutions aren't meant to fully achieve what we know as preservation, but they will contribute in taking steps towards the preservation of our lands and waterways. First, for every car bought there has to be enough trees planted to make up for the amount of pollution that is produced by that car. Second, for every acre of land that is cut down to build homes or businesses, two acres of land must be protected from meeting their destruction. And thirdly, any company that deals with chemicals, such as oil, must be governed by law to donate a portion of their profits to the conservation of our water sources.
