God sums up this sin in just a few words: Thou shall not kill. If the United States truly believes the words "In God We Trust," then why does it not obey His commands? By executing criminals are we serving the greater purpose by giving them what they deserve? No, we simply act on a primitive urge, in the process making more room for those who think just like them. .
The men and women put behind bars often think that dying is the optimum way out of prison. They feel no compulsion to going back and trying to start over, regaining people's trust and respect, of being stereotyped as a "prison rat," and spending life in a cramped chamber. Some even choose to take their own life after being sentenced to a life term. Why, however, do the courts look to relieve them of their suffering when the point of being in jail is to make criminals" lives as uncomfortable as possible?.
Many inmates will have opted for crime because they were not happy with their lives and wished for an outlet. They saw no reason to maintain the status quo, preferring to make a drastic change. More criminals would reconsider their direction if they knew that they would spend the remainder of their lives locked up in cold, hard jail cells. .
