A rather unpleasant incident that I recently experienced has left me yet again with nothing but disappointment in some people today in our society. I encountered an unpleasant young "lady- working at Wendy's on Thompson Boulevard. My friend and I went into Wendy's to simply ask for an empty cup to place a small plant in before it died. When we arrived at the counter, I asked the cashier if I could please have a cup. To my surprise, the woman ignored me completely. Thinking that she probably had not heard me, I repeated my request. The impolite cashier turned to her co-worker and made a rude comment about "little children harassing her for foolishness-. Her comment grabbed my attention, as the lady next in the line happened to be an elderly person; hence her rude remark had obviously been directed to me. She then turned to me and articulated in a most callous tone that if I wanted to be served I'd have to join the line. I thought it highly ridiculous for me to join a line with over ten patrons just to attain a cup. I asked the lady in front of the line if she would please get me a cup when she placed her order. She agreed, and as she placed her order, she specifically requested an extra cup. She received everything except the cup, so she asked for it again. The cashier gave her the cup very hostile-like and when the lady handed the cup to me the cashier stared at me intently, giving off very rude vibes'. I was confused as to why this cashier, whose job it was to interact with hundreds of people daily, possessed such an appalling attitude. I just do not see the logic in it. Instead of being juvenile like the cashier, I just noted her name and face and reported her to the manager. I was vastly disappointed by the poor attitudes of the cashier. It reminded me that the Bahamian economy is based on tourism. I am left to believe that if more people are not courteous, then the impact of that would be felt negatively on the economy, such behavior could spread itself throughout the nation.
