The American Revolution: Treason or Patriotism.
When we talk about the American Revolution we talk about freedom. We talk about fighting for our rights. We talk about independence. But what we don't talk about is how is was viewed to the British, and what were we actually trying to accomplish by fighting this war. The British probably did look on it as a form of treason. While the colonists looked at it as standing up for what they believed in. Who is right? Who is wrong? Most of all, who gets to decide? In this paper I will do my best to bring out all the facts I can to make clear of, was the American Revolution treason or patriotism?.
Back in the 17th century when British people started to wonder how a new life in the New World would be, it was ok for them to come to the New World and try to start their lives thousands of miles away from the homeland. So they did just that, and they started to like not having the government around to boss them around and liked not having all those laws and taxes. The British government didn't like that everyone loved living over there so much. So they put taxes on the colonies. They put laws on the colonies. They did everything they could to make the colonists understand that just because they were thousands of miles away, they were still in control. .
Now, the colonists felt like they could control their own government, make their own taxes, and run their own country, without the help of the British. Unfortunately, the British felt differently. After Britain won the Seven Years War is when we see our first shot at the colonies from the British. Because they were so into debt, Britain thought they could put tax on sugar and this would give them some money to pay for the war. When the Sugar Act was passed it said that the colonies need to make some revenue. Little did the officials in Britain know that the colonists knew what was going on and didn't feel like playing along.
