Our society considers a human life a great responsibility. Parents must care for and support their child. Genetic engineering will allow the parent to alter the natural ability of the child; they are able to determine the future of the child. Power of how they want their child to turn out will be put in the hands of the parents and the child will have no voice to be able to declare what they want out of their life. "Genetic screening already allows us to identify and abort fetuses that carry genes for certain hereditary disorders. But within the next decade, scientists will likely have a complete map of the human genome to work with. Will we abort fetuses on the basis of non-life-threatening impairments such as myopia, because someone is predisposed towards homosexuality, or for purely cosmetic reasons?- (Cummins 3). .
Genetic engineering is still in the process of testing and has not been declared safe. "The public is right to doubt the ethics of applying gene-altering technology to humans. Testing genetic engineering is completely unsafe and unrealistic. Babies are still maturing to their full potential, therefore there is no way that anyone can tell what the side effects are on the child until the time comes, making the procedure impractical.
