Nelle Harper Lee


             In Monroeville, Alabama, in April of 1939, Nelle Harper Lee was born. Lee was born to Frances Finch Lee, her father, and Amasa Coleman, her mom. Frances Finch Lee was a lawyer and served in the state legislator from 1926 to 1938. Nelle's mom was a member of the Virginia family who established Finchburg in Monroe County.
             Once Nelle was of age to attend collage she went to Huntington in Montgomery. However Lee did not stay here. One year later after Lee had entered Huntington collage she transferred to the University of Alabama and finished her collage career there. However she then went to Oxford University in England for an additional year of studying.
             Once returning home from England, Nelle moved to New York. There she began to write. At first she only wrote short stories and a few essays, however none of them were ever printed. Meanwhile she was a clerk for an airlines company. However before long Lee excepted some loans from her friends to continue writing.
             Then in 1957, Nelle Harper Lee submitted To Kill a Mocking Bird to an editor. The editor told her that the book was too broken up but recommended her to rewrite it. So three years later in 1960, Nelle Harper Lee resubmitted To Kill a Mocking Bird. Therefore resulting in the only published book of Harper Lee. .
             In the next few paragraphs I am going to explain what influenced Nelle Harper Lee to write about different things. For one Nelle Harper Lee was a tomboy. Scout is a replica of a younger Nelle when she was a child. .
             Nelle's father, Frances Finch Lee, was a lawyer. Since Nelle's father was both a lawyer his middle name was finch he was the person Atticus Finch was based on. Also Frances and Atticus have similar personalities, they both are hard-workers, humble, and kind.
             The story of To Kill a Mocking Bird takes place in Maycomb, Alabama. This town was based on Monroeville, Alabama, for two reasons. One it was where Nelle Harper Lee grew up and two there was a trial there near the end of the Great Depression.
