Abraham, a Role Model for Many People.
In most cases, people have difficulties agreeing on the same thing. In fact, it hardly ever happens at all. A lot of people try to do it, but most of the time, it is just too hard. It is hard to get people who are good friends to agree with each other sometimes. But other times, people or religions cam agree on things so well, that they are very similar in an abundance of ways. In the article "The Legacy of Abraham" written by David Van Biema, Abraham plays a very significant role in three different faiths; Muslim, Judaism, and Christianity. "Abraham is the only biblical figure who enjoys the unanimous acclaim of all three faiths," (Biema 2). Judaism, Christianity, and the Islam Faith all claim the patriarch, Abraham, as the father of their religion.
In Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith, Abraham's ancestry has a lot of history. "Abraham was born, according to tradition, into a family that sold idols- a way of emphasizing the polytheism that reined the Middle East before his enlightenment," (Biema 3). Abraham first fathers his first boy Ishmael, who was produced by Sarah's Egyptian salve, Hagar. They then received a blessing and miracle very late in life; God told Abraham that he would bring him and his wife a son. Abraham had a great amount of faith in God, as you may well know, and Abraham was made a believer in God that this miracle would happen. Abraham and Sarah then birthed a baby boy named Isaac. God made a covenant, or a divine promise, to follow through Isaac's line, that a great nation would be made with twelve sons that Abraham would conceive. Isaac then married Rebekah, and gave birth to Jacob, or Israel, the name given by God to Jacob. Jacob had a significant bond with God, and fathered 12 sons, one of which was Joseph, Issac's "favorite" son. Abraham's roots all fall into the beliefs of the three faiths. .
All three religions, Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith have ties to Abraham that are similar and different to each other.
