A Separate Peace true relates to a person going through adolescence. The characters through out the book all grew and develop in the same shape or form. The most interesting growth was the growing of the character Elwin Lepellier "Leper". He goes from one extreme to the other. He changes in a way that no one would ever suspect by just the first glance.
Leper love to be out side. He likes to be him self and not do what ever body else is doing even if that means being alone. He sticks to the classic thing like using skiing to get around and not just to go downhill. When the opportunity to go downhill which is easy he choose to still put more effort in to it and go through the woods. "You never get to see the trees" (87 Knowles). He seems to be at peace with him self when things around him are at peace as well. Leper is always one the find new experiences. When he is out in the woods his goals was to find a dam and he does not know where it is. He had also seen a video in class about the army skiing downhill. This was a major challenge that he had to meet.
Leper's decision to go to the army was rushed and rational. Just after seeing the ski video in class he wants to sign up as soon as possible. He was going for w couple of weeks and sent a letter to Gene. "I have escaped and need help. I am at Christmas location. You understand no need to risk address here. My safety depends on you coming at once" (129 Knowles) It leads you knowing that something went wrong with him in the army. When Leper meets Gene he states to get extremely up set. Him seeing the women's face on men's bodies and human parts on chairs and tables shows that he was not at peace anymore. He needs to be in the woods or oust side to be a peace. When he was in the army that was all taken a way and he freaked out.
Leper went back to the school and two boys came and got him for a testimony. He starts to say how he had seen the boys up in the tree.
