Acheiving Potential

The lack of knowledge and experience is detrimental to the development of our character. This statement is very true and can be supported with three key points. First, the amount of knowledge a person acquires gives them a better outlook on life. Second, a vast amount of experiences will be an important factor in determining ones potential. Last, but not least, experiences gained from travel will help to determine potential. In order for us to reach our full potential we must gain knowledge, have experiences, and travel.
Knowledge is the first key point to developing our character. The reason for this is knowledge helps to develop individuality, the less knowledge you have the easily one can be influenced. For instance, the children are taught that the only two places that exist are Pleasant Vile and Elm Street. There for, when Mary Sue/Jennifer asked "what existed outside of Pleasant Vile?" the teacher and students were confused. Another example is the Pleasant Vile Library; none of the books in the library have any words in them, meaning knowledge can only be passed down orally. Also Pleasant Vile does not experience change so there is no new knowledge to be taught to the youth. Knowledge is highly important to achieving ones potential and with out it one will never really know their full potential.
The second key point to reaching ones full potential is numerous experiences. Different experiences give you a better understanding of life; with out them you can never really reach their true potential. This is true with the School basket ball team. The players on the team and the people of pleasant Vile carry within them the knowledge that the basketball team never loses. The players especially, because they never miss any shots they take so the members of the team never know their true potential until an outside element is finally introduced (Jennifer and David). A second example is Jennifer/Mary Sue finally getting to be the popular girl in school and having the cute boyfriend she has always wanted.
