In the past, each country or society has its own culture and identity which are different from other country or society. Because of the growth of communications (telephone, fax, cellular phones, internet) and fast and affordable transportations (air plane, electric trains, ferry boats), due to advancement in science and technology, culture and identities have been easily communicated, shared, and accepted among tribes and races in the countries of the world. As a result, differences in culture and social structures among these different races have been narrowed as time passes by bringing about the growth in similarities of their culture.
A. Social Structure.
1. Autarky - refers to self-contained and self-sustaining sociocultural system followed by a set of people. This means that a certain set of people has a social structure where in they do not rely on outsiders for their basic needs particularly on food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and basic manual and professional services as in plumbing, labor, carpentry, medical, dental, education, etc. These needs are provided and produced inside and among this set of people alone. So they do not import goods and hire workers from outside their group. The aboriginal group Yir Yoron of Australia and Albania have been like this in the past. But advancement in science and technology is penetrating this kinds of group with poor resistance. Who would resist TV, ref, aircon, cell phone, computers, and most of all advancement in the medical technology providing healing on previously incurable diseases in a certain tribe? No sick tribesman will resist advance medical healing. .
2. Interconnectedness - this refers to the volume or frequency of communication, interaction or exchange between two sociocultural groups. The existence of cell phones, internet chat, e-mail, fax, trains, and airplanes among others, have build interconnectedness among social tribes also here in the Philippines.
