Of Plymouth Plantation

Of Plymouth Plantation is a story about the landing at Plymouth. "In William Bradford's Of Plymouth Plantation, respect for God is prominent. These new settlers attribute their survival to God's providence. One example of this providence is when the members of the colony were on the voyage from Europe to America and one of the sailors cursed them and wished them dead. The sailor wanted them to die so he could claim their belongings and throw their dead bodies overboard. That same sailor was infected with a disease that killed him. Bradford believes it was God that smote the sailor out of respect for the settlers" trust. This respect for God and his providence is the reason the settlers believed they were sent Squanto. In this essay, I would be discussing the summary Of Plymouth Plantation.
Of Plymouth Plantation is primarily a narrative. Bradford's main purpose is to tell about a series of events that happened on and off the ship. The sailors had a very long voyage on seas. The sailors faced many hardships. In the beginning of their voyage, the wind and the ocean were calm. It was a soothing voyage until the winds got fierce and the ocean got violent. The sailors fought through the rough weather until it became soothe again. After their long beating at sea, they arrived at a place called Cape Cod. Then the sailors went on seas again when the weather became calm again. They sailed that course for about half the day and they fell amongst dangerous shoals and roaring waves. ("They were so far entangled therewith as they conceived themselves in great danger: and the wind shrinking upon them also, they resolved to bear up again for the Cape and thought themselves happy to get out of those dangers before night overtook them, as by God's good providence they did.") Then after this whole journey, they reached another land known as Cape Harbor. The sailors were so thankful about reaching Cape Harbor so they fell upon their knees and prayed to God and thanked him for their safety.
