Every Sunday afternoon, members of the Vietnamese Catholic Community gather at Sacred Heart Cathedral to attend a two hour long Mass. Usually, people enjoy going to church; but for the ones who attend masses with Father Joseph K, it is rather tormenting. Although he is a well-trained pastor, many people don't acknowledge him because he talks to much and thinks everything should be centered around him. .
As Father K approached the pulpit to begin the homily, an explanation of the readings, everyone started wondering, what is he going to blabber about this time? Instead of explaining the readings, his sermons are always about him; what he did when he was young; his first days in America; but mostly about his findings on the Web. Just like what everyone was afraid of, Father K went on and on, talking about absolutely nothing, for almost half an hour. Finally, he came to an end, making a closing statement. Relieved, everyone started to stand up to continue on with the Mass, until he cried out, "The other day, as I was searching the Internet, I found this very interesting article." He then continued on telling us about it, regardless if it was related to the readings or not. Out of respect, everyone settled back onto their benches and tried to listen to the rest of what he had to say. .
Just last weekend, I spotted a few people fall asleep during his sermon. Their heads bobbed left, right, and even backwards. One man was so fast asleep that his head was tipped back, hanging loosely on his neck, with his mouth wide open. If I was close enough to him, I would probably see drool running down the corner of his mouth. I guess Father K just doesn't realize his sermons are too long and boring. .
Sure, so what if he talks too much? Why do the church members detest him so bad? That's because he doesn't care about anyone else besides himself. So, not only is Father K known as the "energizer bunny" when he talks, he is also known as the most selfish pastor in the world.
