Men are better than women are? Or is our Man made society just tailored towards men? Since the beginning of time women have always been treated differently from men. Women have always lacked some quality when compared to men. Men have always shaped the lives of the women around them. Women are employed by men as maids, mothers, wives and wombs. Simone de Beauvoir's "The Second Sex" and Monique Wittig's "One Is Not Born A Women" and " The Category of Sex" clearly display these inequalities. .
In "The Second Sex" Simone de Beauvoir classifies women as the second sex because of their relation to men. Women are described by their lack of qualities that man has. This makes man complete and women incomplete. " He thinks of his body as a direct and normal connection with the world, which he believe she apprehends objectively, where as he regards the body of a women as a hindrance, a prison, weighed down by everything peculiar to it" (Simone de Beauvoir, 162).
According to Wittig the category of sex is a method that is used to show women's subordination to men. "The category of sex is the category that ordains slavery for women, and it works specifically, as it did for black slaves, through an operation of reduction, by taking part from the whole- (Monique Wittig, 8). She relates the terms "Man" and "Woman to "Master" and "Slave", because man is the ruling material force in our society he is also the ruling intellectual force. It is the ruling intellectual force that has created the idea that "By nature" our heterosexual society has given women the role they have. Wittig says "By nature" woman is given a work load much like that of the working class. For example, "By nature" women are responsible for raising the children and household chores. The working class in comparison to the ruling class has a much larger workload. The term "Woman" is also used in the news as negro was used during segregation.
