Have you ever had a press pass to a concert? How about to the biggest Christian music Festival in Europe? I have! Last summer I had the opportunity to interview several Christian bands such as Audio Adrenaline and All Star United at Flevo, a huge Christian music festival held in the Netherlands. It was amazing - over ten thousand people came to watch these bands perform over the 4 days of the festival, and I got to go back stage and actually talk with the performers! I was able to obtain a press pass because I intern for a Christian radio show called Praise Patrol that airs on the Armed Forces Network (AFN). AFN provides television and radio programming to US service members and their families stationed in 56 countries in Europe and the Middle East, and Praise Patrol reaches every one of them. As an intern, my job is to script, voice, produce, and edit the Teen Minute, which is a segment of the weekly show. Being able to work for a radio station that broadcasts to thousands of Americans overseas has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I am able to give something back to the men and women of the U.S. Military who have made so many sacrifices to keep our country free. What is effective about Praise Patrol is that is it is a live show filled with inspiration, encouragement, and uplifting music that really touches the listeners. Women whose husbands are deployed in Iraq can listen to our show and feel better knowing their loved ones may be listening to the program where they are stationed. Stressed out parents who are at the end of their ropes can tune in and hear an encouraging word to keep their spirits up. Each week Praise Patrol offers a brand new topic - anything goes, from talking about Christmas shopping, to ghosts, to building up your character! What I like so much about the Teen Minute is the opportunity I have to go out into the community and interview other teens.
