In the years following the war Weyerhaeuser opened the first Pulp mill in Longview Washington. This mill was called a "Great Depression miracle," making a profit while overall the company sustained losses. Following great struggles during the Great Depression the company became aware of the quickly diminishing forests. Because of this Weyerhaeuser open the first certified Tree Farm. In an effort to diversify Weyerhaeuser the company began the first Forestry Research Department in Longview. .
When the country was again hit with hard times during the Second World War and the company turned to the women to step up and keep the mills running while the soldiers were away. In order to aid the government Weyerhaeuser Company gave the military use of their private fleet. .
The company continued to turn out new products during the post-war era. And soon the Fine Paper Division became the largest division within the company. It was during this time that Weyerhaeuser Company purchased the paper mill in Rothschild WI from U.S. Can Company. .

The Rothschild paper mill was purchased by Weyerhaeuser in the late 1970. The mill manufactures "Fine Paper" this paper is of the highest quality. Fine Paper is uncoated paper of several different thicknesses and is used for printing in Offset printing processes. Weyerhaeuser Rothschild, up until recently operated two paper machines, pulp mill, boiler house, and converting operations (SEE DIAGRAMS BELOW).
