Southern Pride

But why he was murdered confuses me?.
Just fifteen minutes from my house in Horn Lake, Mississippi is the Lorraine Motel cuddled on a small corner in Memphis, Tennessee. It's long been closed since that tragic day in April of 1968 and has currently been renovated into a Civil Rights Museum. When I go home ,for whatever reason it may be, I usually take a trip downtown and when I see that motel I try and wonder what it was like to be there that day. Why did someone shoot him? What reason did they have? Did he deserve it? .
All of these possibly interesting questions, and will we ever know why exactly? Probably not, but when you look at the example he led and the words so reverently pinned while sitting in an Alabama jail cell, one must wonder why violence was used to kill such a passive human being. .
There is an old adage that states, "You catch more bees with honey than vinegar." This is true in Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's case. Although tossed to and fro on a wild ride of public criticism and hate, he still managed to always keep upon himself the characteristics of a minister of Christ. .
Was he an extremist for his cause? Such an accusation would be ludicrous. Extremist are violent, pushy, and demanding people who see their views the only way to think. Instead of pushing his views upon those who disagreed with him, Dr. King tried a more compassionate approach. His soft speaking and eloquence did the persuading for him. Instead of harsh bashing and political pummeling, Dr. King spoke with love and fairness. Was he seeking to over-throw the political and sociological views of the government? Of course not, he was, if anything grateful to be in the country he was in. .
All Dr. King wanted for himself and the rest of his race was the equality due to them. Did he use harshness and violence to achieve this goal? Was he bitter against the white man for the way they were treated? Undoubtedly he was not.
