My reaction after reading this novel is that it wasn't real exciting. The novel was ok, but I was looking for more action then having a rocket fly over three mites. However, this book showed a lot of encouragement. Homer's dad supported him during his rocket buildings, and I think that's important for teenage kids. I liked Homer in this Novel. He was like the leader of their club Rocket Boys. He gets the action moving when he asks Quinten to join and help their club. This is a nice jester because Quinten is a geek and never talks to anyone. However, the club needs him to work the algebraic equations. I didn't really like Roy Lee in this book. He is too cocky for me. He always thinks he can do whatever he wants, but he never really hurts the club with his ambitions. .
Homer reminds me of myself. He isn't very close to his dad before the rocket buildings. It took an event to bring him closer to his dad. This also happened to me with my dad. I wasn't close to my dad until I wrecked a car and almost died. We are also both nice and social. He talks to everyone that will talk to him at school. I also talk to everyone that are worth it. Homer's dad reminds me of my dad. They both work hard to support their families. My dad used to work several jobs. Homer's dad works hard in a mine; everyone knows working in a mine isn't fun or easy. I was concerned for Homer when he leaves his rocket equipment unlocked and it gets stolen. This happens right before a competition. In spite of this he still wins first place because his mom sends him extra equipment right in time. .
If I had a question for the author it would be "Why did u want to do anything with rockets?" I would never actually get into rockets and build them unless it was for a prize or reward. There is more then one theme in this book. One theme is that with a little encouragement a person can do a lot. Homer and his friends are nobody's from a small mining town, and they win National's for their rocket.
