Heroes


Some children and teenagers consider celebrities and athletes their heroes because they want to have the same occupation when they grow up. While some have dreams of being doctors or teachers or lawyers, a majority of the teenagers in America have dreams of becoming famous actors, singers, or athletes. This majority of the teenagers look up to celebrities and athletes because they too want to accomplish their dreams. Most children and teenagers often view celebrities as their heroes because they envy that person's position and success in life and would like to grow up to be that person. Some people, however, only view them as their heroes because they look at how successful and happy they are in their lives. .
             Americans consider athletes and celebrities their heroes because they are talented in what they do and in a lot of cases they are good looking. The media plays a major role in why Americans often turn to athletes and celebrities as their heroes and role models. The media mainly portrays celebrities and athletes. MTV, music television, is an example of a popular TV channel that many teenagers watch because of the famous singers, and dancers. When movies come out in theatres, even though the preview was not good, some people watch the movie only because there is an actor or actress they like. This has some dangers because this means that American people depend on the media way too much. It means that people tend to get lured in by the media and want to live just like the celebrities do, having mansions and many cars. .
             There are certain good sides and bad sides of athletes and celebrities. The good sides of them are that they are successful, popular, admired, and respected. They can basically buy anything they want and still have enough money to live the rest of their lives without working. They get attention and are able to meet other rich celebrities and stars. However, a major bad side of athletes and celebrities is that when they are being viewed by the public everyday, they are constantly faced with media and public scrutiny.
