On today's agenda, we must decide which one of these two ads will be suitable for our target audience. Here at Cosmopolitan', our target audience is mature women between the ages of 16-35. Without our them our magazine would be worthless. As the largest-selling young women's magazine in the world, Cosmopolitan' is famous for its upbeat style, focusing on the young career woman and candid discussion of contemporary male/female relationship issues. April s issue, will include articles giving beauty tips, solutions on how to deal with boyfriends or spouses, career problems, ideas on how to alleviate stress with feature articles on "Sexy Apparel- and "How To Tease Your Man- by Dr. Phil. Our dominant discourse is a sexy, mature woman's lifestyle magazine. Therefore, we must present them with SEXY everything. OK, let's get moving.
Here we have two very SEXY ads, one for Elle MacPherson "Intimates- and the other for Jennifer Lopez "Glow- Perfume. These ads are well-suited for our magazine since our dominant gender discourse is predominantly young career women. Thus, both foreground women in a provocative, alluring way which is the mantra of our magazine. Price points are a non issue with these two products, since they are both in-line with the socio-economic status and spending habits of our readership. We need to decide which one is best suited for our April issue. We'll start with the Elle MacPherson "Intimates".
This advertisement is intended for women aged hmmm, lets say, 18+. It's very provocative, alluring, everything this magazine stands for. The promotion features an anglo-saxon woman wearing a flattering and delicate pink bra with black eyelash lace, but this type of lingerie has appeal across most multicultural borders. The imagery in the ad reveals a sophisticated, intimate glimpse of the lingerie through a keyhole, which enhances the sensuality of the ad. To heighten the intimacy and further enhance the idea of someone peeking through a keyhole, the head of the model is not visible.
