The Cause of Hamlet


And so he goes to heaven, and so am I revenged. That would be scanned: A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send to heaven" (III.iii.77-83). Hamlet is arguing with himself whether he should kill Claudius or not. It would be the perfect time to do it, but Hamlet's indecisiveness steers him away. As the play progresses Hamlet still hasn't gotten revenge for his father's death. He keeps saying that he will do it, but he never does. " O, from this time forth my thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth!" (IV.v.68-69). Hamlet's indecisiveness gives Claudius time to plan Hamlet's murder. The King plans for Laertes to challenge Hamlet to a sword fight. The King says to Laertes, "you mad choose a sword unbated- (IV.vii.156-57). The King is planning the murder of Hamlet; Laertes will have a sharp sword and with poison on the tip. This plan soon leads to the fall of the tragic hero, Hamlet. Hamlet was indecisive and didn't kill Claudius when he got the chance, this lead to the death of Hamlet.
             Hamlet discovered the truth about his father's death through a ghost. His Uncle Claudius, the king, murdered his father. Hamlet possessed an internal loathing towards his uncle. He hated his uncle and hated the fact that his mother remarried so quickly to such a man. Hamlet wants to kill Claudius. But he detests Claudius so much that he cannot kill him until his uncle is sinning. Hamlet sees Claudius praying and is about to kill him. But Hamlet doesn't want Claudius to go to heaven so he stops. "Now might I do it, no he is a-praying, and now I"ll do "t. And so he goes to heaven, and so am I revenged" (III.iii.77-79). Hamlet stops and thinks, he decides that he will kill him "when he is drunk asleep, or in his rage, or in the incestuous pleasure of his bed, at fame a-swearing, or about some act that has no relish of salvation in't," "his soul may be damned and black as hell, whereto it goes" (III.
