To kill a mockingbird

The fact that she decided to try and cope with so much pain and discomfort is admirable. She believed that she was born free and she wanted to die free so she took the option that was harder but was true to her beliefs. This is true courage.
" - I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.".
Atticus explains that the determination of Mrs Dubose is real courage. She showed far greater courage by taking advantage and tackling her addiction than the courage of a man taking advantage of the defenceless animals.
Although the kids don't realise at first they have a neighbour who also deserves more respect. Arthur "Boo" Radley is a man who has shied away from the community and has rarely been seen for fifteen years. His story is mysterious and all sorts of tales go around the local gossip describing him as a "malevolent phantom". The children play games pretending to be this wicked spirit but they eventually learn that their view on him is wrong.
Boo is different and unusual to the other citizens of Maycomb and the fact that he is shrouded in mystery attracts the children, as any child with an active imagination would be. The Radley place seems to have some sort of intimidating aura that prevents the children going near it but encourages them too. To touch or go near the house is seen as daring by Jem and Scout. They don't respect his privacy or individuality. Atticus soon puts a stop to this after he catches them playing what he calls an "asinine game" when he explains that:.
"What Mr Radley did might seem peculiar to us, but it didn't seem peculiar to him.".
             And:.
"What Mr Radley did was his own business. If he wanted to come out, he would.".
He was born with his own unique personality as we all are and he should be able to live like this without anyone's judgement. These quotes explain this.
After all this has been sorted Boo saves their lives when a drunken Mr Ewell sets out to kill them with a motive of revenge against Atticus.
