The person I chose to write on is Jim Talent. Before this exercise I didn't even know who our Senators or Representatives even were. I really found this project to be interesting and educational.
Jim Talent is our senator from Missouri, his current district is Junior Seat and he is a Republican. His background information is rather interesting, he went to law school at the University of Chicago in 1981, and he received his BA in Political Science at Washington University in St. Louis in 1978. Before he was in the Senate or the House he was working for Lashly and Baer 1988-1992, and before this he worked for Moller Talent Kuethanl and Welch from 1981-1987. His political experience is: Senator United States Senate 2002-present, Republican Candidate, Governor 2000, Representative United States House of Representatives 1993-2000, Member/Minority Leader Missouri General Assembly 1985-1992, he was also part of the Speaker's Health Care Task Force from 1995-1996. His record while in the House and Senate have been from 97%-99% for voting participation, 90%-98% party support, and for presidential support it has been low 15% in 1995 to 50% in 1994.
Jim Talent has been in many different committees" during his House and Senate times. They range from the Armed Services Committee where he tried as a committee to discontinue production of the Missouri-built F-18 Super Hornet in 1997. He was part of the Small Business Committee; he also served on the Education committee in the House for 6 years. For example, "in 2000 Senator Talent passed legislation to allow public school authorities to remove from the classroom students who possessed or used illegal drugs or committed aggravated assault in schools".
Talents total receipts from 1999-2004 is $9,565,350, of this amount he has spent $9,091,981 for his campaign. His sources of funding are 75.1% is from individual contributions, 19.
