Now I am far from an alcoholic but I am a college student trying to enjoy my youth, so I just put that little tidbit of REALTE hogwash to the side and moved on to something a little more relevant. One challenge area concerning my personality, however, I did find to be an excellent piece of advice. It said that I wish to try and change my partner and mold her into the ideal person for me. I have trouble accepting flaws and attempt to wean them out, because of this I often pick fights for bad reasons, and because my ability to resolve conflicts effectively is another challenge area of mine, this further weakens the relationship. After reading all of these weaknesses it is clear that I have some work to do in the personal context category of my relationships both present and in the future.
Next, when considering my social and family upbringings, it is apparent that they played little or no role in the development of my challenge areas but instead reinforced my strengths. I was born and raised in a loving home and always provided for; my parents are still married to this day and while I was growing up they rarely ever fought, however, if they did they resolved it in a very mature and effective manner. My family has no history of violence besides that fighting of my brother and me growing up as young children just like all siblings do; also, there was no alcoholism or drug use in my family growing up. Growing up in my house was a great thing for me and strengthened my social abilities as well as my morality. My dad is an excellent conversationalist and growing up amongst that strengthened my ability to function in the social realm of my life. Unfortunately, getting a girl has never been a problem but the more important aspect of maintaining the relationship is something that desperately needs improvement. However, RELATE would agree that my social and family contexts are strong, do not need tweaking, and reinforce positive aspects of my relationship life.
