In the United States there are many people who know how to speak different languages because they emigrated from different countries. Language is the basis of any culture, so if you take away the language you take away the culture. It is this loss of language that has taken today's generations from their traditions and culture. Culture is the belief or behavior of a particular society and the way of life of its people. In addition, culture also is the training, development, refinement of mind, tastes, manners, and all other products of human work and thought. How do you communicate with people who have different cultures? Culture and communications are always connected because if we understand the culture, it helps us to more easily communicate with the people. Therefore, the relationship between communications and culture is very important. There are several differences between the United States and Vietnam including; religion, relationships, education, family dysfunction, and education in family value.
Vietnam, where I was born and raised, is a country rich in resources and it is inundated with tradition. We have a small population and most people are Buddhists. They believe the Buddha is a deity, and those who have reached enlightenment, but remained in this world to help all to reach the same transcendent state he did. In addition, a monk who gives up everything for religion and enters a monastery to live in solitude as hermits are bound by the vows of poverty, celibacy, and obedience to a superior. A worshipper goes to the temple only on the full moon or when they need advice about economic fortunes. Therefore, right on the fifteenth day of the month, when we eat in the family at lunch or dinner, all family members have to wait five minutes before eating is allowed. Our religion believes that we have to wait for the Buddha or the Dead people to eat first and then it is permitted that we may eat.
