During this period in time for American's they needed a leader to believe in, not a friend to tell them what they wanted to here. .
The other side of the wizard represented the other face that Roosevelt showed the world. Even though he was the leader of America, he still was just a man. The wizard, once found out how he really was, was a frail, soft spoken, man who could relate to the everyday American. Roosevelt was crippled early in life from polio, which shows his human side that just because he is the president, he cannot cheat the factors that can hit any man at any time. He was also very soft spoken, not letting his tone but his words do the talking. He had a prepared speech ready for every occasion that gave the American people confidence that there was nothing that could take this country by surprise and the only way for the country of America to go was up. This mindset brought the American people closer to their leader, by dealing with someone who could easily thrust his weight around, instead deciding to relate with the people on a personal level. .
The scarecrow in the story is paralleled to the farmer. The depression hit the farmer hard, not by taking away the ability to farm, but by taking away the customers the farmers depend on for money. The majority of the farmer's problems did not have to do with the lack of resources but no one to sell the products to. Roosevelt started the Agriculture Adjustment Act so that the farmers could grow fewer crops and still make the same amount of money. This would decrease the supply of crops giving them a greater value. With the farmer's extra earning power they could now afford to buy industrial goods, thereby helping to stimulate the economy from the bottom up. With this in place, he proved that the farmers had the tools to get the country back on its feet by their management of the economy, therefore showing the relationship between the scarecrow having a brain and the farmer's ability to control their own success in economic value.
