Westwood High School is a public school in Winterhaven, Washington. For fifteen years now Winterhaven has been your typical small, home-town of about 6,500residents. Recently Winterhaven has beenDiscovered? by the Seattle residents and now the population has tripled to 30,000 residents. With all this population growth Winterhavens? high school has also had a major increase, but the school has no money to enlarge it, so the students are stuck in this high school in portable classrooms. Winterhavens high school has gone through a dramatic change. Dr. Michael Jensen, Winterhavens new principal, had recently been a drug enforcement coordinator at other high school campuses. Dr. Jensen had a locker search performed and found a handgun, two pellet guns, small bags of marijuana in six lockers, three cases of beer; among sixteen lockers, two foil-wrapped packages of crack cocaine, four knives, two clubs, four bottles of hard liquor, and seven bottles of wine. Dr. Jensen is now proposing that the Winterhaven Valley Governing Council approve of his proposals which are: that all vehicles on campus be subject to search, students and staff wear photo ID at all times, book bags be subject to search every morning, and that metal detectors be installed at all entrances. .
Winterhaven is not the only high school that has been having issues with safety, concerning guns, knives, and physical violence. Many schools around the country have been .
