Eminem

In 2000, the controversial lyrics of a white rapper named Eminem's second album, " The Marshall Mathers LP" became very publicized. Among other things, he rapped about his drug addict mother, hating women, killing his girlfriend, being homophobic, and influencing children. Some of his thoughts were more graphic than others, but nonetheless, Eminem claims to be saying it all as a joke and therefore it should not be taken as more than that. According to the United States Constitution, Eminem has the right to Freedom of Speech therefore he can exercise this amendment to the fullest extent.
"The Marshall Mathers LP" contains extremely controversial lyrics. Eminem claimed that everything he wrote about was just venting emotions he felt at that particular time. He also claims that he would never actually do the things that he raps about, but that his lyrics are simply therapeutic to him. Eminem claims that the main reason the public does not like what he has to say is because he is white, which means suburban white kids who enjoy rap will automatically feel like they can relate to him and the things he is saying are not what white parents want their children to emulate. .
The Gay Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has repeatedly spoken out against Eminem claming that his lyrics are hateful and promote violence. However, he insists that he is just joking and a sense of humor is needed to understand that. Speaking out against Eminem enhances the public's curiosity, which boost Eminem's record sales and makes him as popular as he is today. Rather than speak out against him, people should just not support him.
Although Eminem has admitted that he would not let his own 6-year-old (in 2000) daughter listen to any of his albums, in the song "Who Knew" he also says that parents should not censor music because it is for their kids" amusement. Eminem has a valid argument when parents want to blame his artistic expression and use of Freedom of Speech for their childrens" actions and yet they allow their young daughters to go into a world of pedophiles wearing make-up.
