I got my first taste of drag racing at the age of fourteen at the Baylands Drag Strip in Fremont, California. The most amazing thing I had ever seen, smelled or heard. With the smell of Nitro in the air combined with tire smoke and the earth shaking under my feet just got my adrenalin pumping like someone had open the flood gate. As the sounds of Top Fuel Dragsters rocketing down the quarter mile like a lighting bolt in less then 5 seconds and over 270 mph, I stood in amazement. I knew that this was something I had to experience first hand and from the driver's seat. By age sixteen, I was blazing down the quarter mile at 140 mph in a friend's 1971 Chevy Vega in less than 10 seconds! Experiencing the rush of acceleration as G-forces keep pushing me back in to the seat as it we were taking off like a plane as front wheels of the car lifted off the ground. Rocketing down the quarter mile drag strip was an adrenalin rush I had never felt before and from that point on, I wanted to experience that type heart pumping rush again.
I started drag racing at the age of seventeen. The type of drag racing I am now doing is Bracket Racing, which also known as E.T (elapsed time) racing. Bracket racing allows almost anyone to race, on a fairly even playing field. This variety of the sport places much more emphasis on the driver skills than the car itself. In basic terms, a drag race is an acceleration contest, from a standing start, between two Vehicles, over a measured distance, either a quarter-mile or an eighth-mile. .
I enjoy the thrills of drag racing so much it has become apart of my life style. There is nothing that gets my adrenalin pumping more then seating behind the wheel of a race car.
