Arteriosclerosis and atherosclorosis

Arteriosclerosis, also known as Peripheral Vascular Disease and Peripheral Arterial Disease, is the hardening of the walls of the arteries. Arteriosclerosis often begins in the feet and travels to the blood vessels in the leg. In arteriosclerosis, the outside wall of the artery becomes thicker, as the central, or lumen, becomes narrower. The artery walls also lose their elasticity. .
Often, cerebral arteriosclerosis is responsible for the senility in elderly people. If the leg vessels are infected, there will probably be a loss of movement and it may lead to gangrene (disease that deteriorates whatever it has affected and that part eventually needs to be amputated). There is also a decrease in blood flow in the infected leg area and will hurt nerves and other tissues. When a blood vessel is completely clogged, it will most likely result in a heart attack. (If it happens in the cerebral arteries, it is called an Apoplexy, and if it is in the coronary arteries it is known as a Thrombosis.).
The hardening of the arteries begins in the feet and travels to the legs. When the vessel narrows, it will sometimes become totally occluded, or blocked. Because the walls of the artery is not as elastic as before, it.

can not dilate and allow a greater blood flow, like is needed during exercise. Calcium deposits in the artery's walls often contribute to the stiffness and narrowing of the vessel.
Arteriosclerosis often affects men over the age of 50 and people who have a family history of coronary artery disease. This also may affect people who smoke, have hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, or people who have had a stroke in the past.
Arteriosclerosis often only affects one limb. Symptoms are:.
             1. Leg pain when exercise that is relieved when in a resting state.
             2. Numbness in the legs and/or feet when at rest.
             3. A weak or no pulse in the limb(s).
             4. Loss of hair on the legs and/or feet.
