             Globalization is a hard term to define. It's more than just a single thing; it's a way of life. It is fast becoming the way of life for everyone on the planet whether they like it or not. People around the globe are more connected to each other than ever before. Information and money flow more quickly than ever. Goods and services produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the world. International travel is becoming more frequent. The name for our present era is slowly becoming known as "the age of globalization". But not all people feel that globalization is a good thing. There is a heated debate between the pros and cons of globalization going on in our present society. .
             Globalization has helped bring people from far different countries and societies together for the first time. It allows countries to communicate with one another and create a "global market place". Because it expands economic freedom and spurs competition, globalization raises the productivity and living standards of people in more developed countries that open themselves to the global marketplace. Globalization results in citizens experiencing new freedoms in the market place. In this sense globalization acts almost as a check agaisnt government power and makes it more difficult for governments to abuse the freedom and property of their citizens. Globalization seems to be a good deal for every one involved, but that's only one side of the debate.
             There are also consequences of today's global market and I agree with Critics of globalization that these consequences are best seen in lesser developed countries or LDCs. The expanding world market seems to leave behind the smaller trade economies of the poorer countries in the world. For example, less developed African countries have been opened up to foreign imports and firms which has led to the destruction of local enterprises. A process of "deindustrialisation" has taken place in many countries such as Zambia.
