There are many similarities and differences between Ancient Egypt and Sumer. They both had similar geography and government, but they also had different religious beliefs and writing systems.
One of the similarities was the location. They both were settle by rivers and depended on the rivers because they were in the middle of the desert. Another was how they got their food. They both irrigated water from the rivers to their farmlands. The Nile, which is by Ancient Egypt, flooded annually and was easy to predict. In Sumer, they had two rivers, the Tigris and the Euphradies that did not flood on a predictable basis. They both had similar types of government too. Although they had similar government, there were differences. In Egypt, there was a Pharoah which was the leader. In Sumer, there was a king. They both had buerocracies to help divide up the work. Below the king, there was an assistant that divided up the responsibilities into different responsibilities, like taxes, defences, and irrigation projects. There are more differences between them though, including religion, and writing.
Some religious differences was that in Egypt, the Pharoah (the leader) was considered a God, while in Sumer, the king was considered a religious leader, the highest to the God of their city-state. The Pharoah was prayed to as a God. There was more than one God in Egypt, in fact there were many of them. This is called Polytheism. In Sumer, there was one god. The king lead the religious ceromonies because he was believed to be the closest to God. He was the closest, not a God like in Egypt. When you believe in one God, it is called Monotheism. Writing was also different.
