Religion is sacred engagement with that which is believed to be a spiritual reality. There are many different types of religion, some beliefs only one God and some have many different Gods. Religious beliefs came from the environment and surroundings a person grow up in, because it can represent a person's cultural background. .
Everyone should respects others religious beliefs. People have their own thoughts and opinions on things, and not everyone will think the same. Even though, many people might not agree on the same religion, they should not use their own religious beliefs to influence others. .
When I was in eighth grade at Holub Middle School, I have a good friend and his name is Mike. He was a very good friend of mine, and we have U.S. History class together. We help each other on the homework, and he always make people in our table laugh. One day, we lead in to the subject of religion, and then he asked me for my religious preference. So I told him that I don't believe in God. Mike's first response was that if I don't believe in God then I will go to hell. He even verified his belief with one of the teachers. To my surprise, the teacher actually agreed with him and answered him loudly so that the entire class can hear. .
That day I was mad and confuse. I do not understand why did my good friend disrespect my beliefs, and ignore me after he knows that I am atheist. I respect his religious belief even he do not agree with what I believe in. Not only my good friend does not respect my beliefs, the teacher did the same too. The teachers suppose to be the role model of the students, but why did he make such a religious statement in a public school. .
One of the first actions that we should work on is to change the pledge. Public school is not supposed to promote religion, but in one of the line in the pledge mentions God. How about people like me, who believe there is no God? Other than changing the pledge, parents can teach their children to respect others beliefs, even though if their children do not agree with it.
