Misconception of sexual intercourse has added to unwed teenage mothers (Fryling, 1). Many of misconceptions we believe in our culture have to do with our hunger for relationship. Young people want acceptance, loving relationships, and deep intimacy. Yet, we believe the lie that sex will satisfy our hunger. The misconception that premarital sex is one our unalienable rights. Sex is also said to be the route to intimacy (Fryling,1). Many seem to hold that premarital abstinence is obsolete at best and repressive at worst is a lie that many teenagers believe today (Fryling, 1). .
There are seven different misconceptions of sex: .
(1.) Teenagers seem to want to think that sex creates intimacy. A good example of this is of a prostitute. She may expose her body, but her relationships are hardly intimate. (2.) Starting sex early in a relationship will help you get to know one another and become better partners later. (3.) Casual sex with out long term commitments is both fun and freeing. For women, particularly, sex can reveal hidden fears and lack of trust. (4.) If sex is not expressed freely, then sex must be repressed, sick, or prudish. The February 1991 issue of "Journal Pediatrics" reported that researchers at Indiana University found that sexually active teens are most likely to be prone to alcohol and drugs and have trouble in school. (5.) Sex is Freedom. Young people who become sexually active in response to peer pressure to be sophisticated and independent are actually becoming victims of current public opinion. (6.) Surely God understands that this is the 20-century! How can society says okay be wrong? In the seventh commandment to Israelites, God said, "you shall not commit adultery" (Exodus 20: 14). (7.) Sex is not worth the wait; maybe it is best to take the opportunities as they come (Fryling, 1).
