             God's Gangsters.
The Boondock Saints takes place in the seedy underworld of Boston during the late 1990s. Connor and Murphy McManus, (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus respectively) two Irish brothers working in a meat packing plant, act on what they believe to be a message from God and will stop at nothing to reach their goal to rid the world of violence. The three begin their crusade by eliminating the Russian mobsters who attempt to close down their local watering hole. They then work their way on up through the ranks of the Italian mafia. Although society views them as Saints whose actions should be heralded, in comes detective Smecker (Willem Dafoe) who vows to stop at nothing to bring their vigilantism to a halt. The main point of the film is the greater evil of evil men--indifferent men. The McManus brothers feel that they have a calling from God to rid the world of evil men. They do not want to be indifferent men.
The movie starts out with the brothers sitting in church, kneeling and praying over a rosary. As the saints are kneeling, a prayer is read over the audio. "When I raise my flashing sword and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance upon mine enemies. And I will repay those who haze me. Oh Lord, raise me to Thy right hand and count me among Thy saints." Everyone else is saying the "Our Father". The "saints" make there way up to the alter and kiss the feet of Jesus. The head priest is beginning his sermon. It reads: "I am reminded on this holy day of the sad story of Kitty Genovese.
