Cloning

The birth announcement of Dolly flared the argumentative issues of human cloning. People realize now that human cloning may no longer be just a scientific fantasy, but an astonishing phenomenon that is only steps away from becoming a reality. .
One of the most important reasons why human cloning should be banned is the fact that the cloned children would have no emotional ties within the family. Sure, the parents would love and support their cloned child but not in the same manner as if the child was their very own. There remains a profound ethical difference between "having a child," and "making a child" (O"Connor11). John O"Connor, a Roman Catholic Cardinal and Archbishop of New York, explains that parents view their own birth child as a cherished gift, but a manufactured child would always be seen as a thing or a product for use not to be respected for what he/she is, but priced for what it can do, have, or be used for (11). This statement proves that families and their cloned children would not have close family ties because the clone would not be created for parents that wanted just any child, but for the parents who want a child that was made to be "perfect". I believe that children are a gift from God and should be valued in that perspective and not to be categorized as an object or a product to be bought and sold . God has a purpose in the birth of each child. He knew that children would need two parents to love, comfort, and cherish them. That is why He made man and woman in His image so that they could be fruitful and multiply (Gen. 1:27-28). Clearly God had intended for society to have two parents in order to form a loving Christian family. With human cloning this would not be possible because scientists would take control of God's work and in turn would be "playing the role of God." It astounds me that scientists would even take into consideration the cloning of man.
