Education, can you ever have enough? It would seem that in today's world the answer to that question is no. With technology growing by leaps and bounds education is becoming the one thing that we can not do without. Adults are finding themselves returning to the classroom to gain skills necessary to compete in today's job market. With this influx of adults entering colleges the educators are left with the task of learning to educate adults. Theorists, educators and psychologists have developed theories, models and systems, some of which are outlined in The Adult Learner and will be discussed from the point of view of this adult learner.
Concrete Experience.
Adults learn differently than children. This is the premise of the class and the book The Adult Learner. As part of this class I have been assigned to read chapters in this book, take quizzes based on the readings and the instructor's notes, participate in classroom discussions and produce two papers. The first paper was an overview of what I have learned. That was an easy paper to write. The second paper is what I am currently working on and has proven to be much more difficult. The class is a small group of adults who have one goal in common, obtain a bachelors degree in Organizational Leadership. We are from different personal and employment backgrounds and have been able to use our backgrounds and experiences to better relate to the material being presented.
My original goal in this class was to get through it with my sanity intact so that I could get on with finishing my degree. I found however that if I could understand some of the theories and ideas I would be able to apply them to myself and my job. As a result I began to approach the subject matter from the point of view of someone who will put some of these theories to the test.
